The three-stage interchangeable transformation (shortcut change) system simplifies the transformation sequence by using some interchangeable parts. It achieves the ease of assembly, wide range of motion, and refined shape of each form that are unique to the HG series.
By incorporating some interchangeable parts into some of the transformation mechanism, the entire transformation sequence has been simplified. The model transforms easily into its Battroid, Gerwalk, and Fighter modes.
The shortcut change allows for the forms of each mode to be faithful to the original design drawings.
By eliminating complex structures and providing optimal articulation points that are conscious of posing, a new level of mobility is achieved!
The main wings are movable, and can be retracted when in Battroid mode.
Retractable shoulders expand the range of motion of the arms.
Three-axis articulation in the chest allows for a wide range of movement in all directions.

The newest member of Bandai's "HG" model-kit lineup is the YF-21, which competed fiercely with the YF-19 to become the main mecha from "Macross Plus!" The transformation sequence has been simplified into three steps by using replacement parts. Each form features ease of assembly and a wide range of motion. In addition to the Gerwalk, Fighter and Battroid forms, the YF-21's characteristic form and its "limiter release" form can also be reproduced. The unusual prototype variable fighter YF-21 piloted by Gard Gore Bowman in the OVA "Macross Plus" finally joins the "DX Chogokin" action-figure lineup from Bandai!

Completely new modeling enables three-stage transformation, and it can also get into its high maneuver mode (limiter release mode) with its limbs purged. 

Familiar equipment such as the FAST pack and gun pod are included. In Fighter mode, the engine nozzle fins move one by one.
